The Last of Summer

It’s only been a few years now that I have experimented in some tomato plants here at my house. My problem is too many trees, so not enough hours of sun for the plants. But for the last 2 years I’ve been successful with a cherry tomato variety called “Mexican Midgets”. They have thrived in a flower bed off my back deck. So this past spring I decided to add a regular tomato variety from a vendor at our community’s Herb Festival to my plantings.  Then it was “where to plant it”! So the Heirloom Cherokee Purple was given a try in one of my front flower beds. The thought was it would get morning to early afternoon sun and hopefully that would be sufficient. And I was successful! In fact, if I choose to do another plant next year I’ll have to invest in a more substantial and taller tomato cage!

Getting ready to enjoy them, just cut in nice slices with some of my favorite Balsamic vinegar and fresh basil from the herb garden.
