Baby Boys are always hard to stitch a smocking project for. I have found that for the tiny baby, a easy fit bubble makes a nice gift. Collars Etc. has a great one in their Layette pattern. It can be stitched up for boy or girl, but makes up nicely for little boys. Here I’ve chosen a Pima Classic–Herringbone cotton in “little boy blue”! There is a sweet bunny smocking design included in the Collar’s Etc pattern that is stitched on a few pleats just in the center front of the bubble. View 11 & 12 are the bubble variations of the bubble pattern.
My bunny is stitched in cotton Floche’ thread and I also added some carrots on the collar to complete the look. The bubble buttons down the back and I like to use cotton snap tape for the crotch opening. I love buttons, but sometimes a squirmy baby makes finishing up a diaper change an ordeal! The Pima Classics wash up very nicely and are super soft. I carry several options in the Pima Classics, the herringbone, tattersall and many colors of the gingham check.
